The National Unity Party (NUP) leader, Abdoulie Ebrima Jammeh has said the Upper and Central River Regions (URR & CRR) should not buy rice under a “proper government”, willing to improve the farming system.
“What you people are crying about today is not something you should be crying about. You are crying about the expensiveness of the bag of rice in this country. The rice you bought is very expensive and here in URR (Upper River Region) and CRR (Central River Region), you should not buy rice in this country; if there is a “proper government” in this country that is willing to improve the farming system. What we should eat, we will have that until we have remaining. We will also have some that we can sell to others. So the reason we are all complaining about how expensive rice is in this country is because the government in place is not supporting the farmers,” Mr Jammeh said.
Talking about his party’s campaign strategy, Mr Jammeh said they are entering every village to know their problems.
“Our party is a party that comes to stand for the people. An example of it is that we don’t hold our meetings in only big villages or towns. We hold meetings in every village to discuss with the people. What is happening in this country is very sad. Would you believe that some people in this country cannot even afford drinking water or water to take a bath? Would you believe that some people in this country cannot even afford food to eat? That is why we are discussing with the people to know their problems because you cannot solve their problems, if you don’t know them,” Jammeh told the people of Basse Dampha Kunda on Saturday.
Abdoulie Ebrima Jammeh, the standard-bearer of the National Unity Party (NUP) would on December 4, lock horns with the incumbent President Adama Barrow of NPP, Lawyer Ousainu ANM Darboe of UDP, Halifa Sallah of PDOIS, Mama Kandeh of GDC, and Essa Mbye Faal, the independent candidate.
