National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) has in a dispatch attributed the current erratic power supply in the Greater Banjul Area (GBA) to mechanical fault at Brikama and Kotu Power Stations, as well as KARPOWER company.

“NAWEC wishes to inform the general public that some engines in Brikama and Kotu Power Stations have been shut down due to some mechanical faults, while KARPOWER was already shut down for a some routine maintenance.”

The Water and Electricity Company continued in the dispatch that the said mechanical fault is being fixed and expected to complete soon.

“The engineers have already started restoring some of the feeders that were shut down and hopefully they will complete as soon as possible.”

As a result of the shut down, on top of erratic electricity supply, places such as Farato have been experiencing water shortage for days now.
