The National Assembly Members (NAMs) on Thursday voted for a motion to adjourn sittings sine -die without the usual adjournment debate.

Hon. Fatoumata Njie, National Assembly member for Banjul South, proposed a motion to adjourn the Parliament’s session without holding the usual adjournment debate. The motion was supported by the majority of NAMs, and the session was adjourned without further discussion.

The motion was seconded by Hon. Amadou Camara, the NAM for Nianija. The motion received support from a majority of the NAMs, with 20 votes in favor and 12 votes against. The motion was therefore passed, and the meeting was adjourned without debate.
The sixth Legislature of the National Assembly concluded its sessions without an adjournment debate for the first time. This is significant because the adjournment debate is an opportunity for members to discuss issues that are important to their constituents and to the executive. Without the adjournment debate, these issues may not be addressed.
