Bakary K. Badjie, the National Assembly Member for Foni Bintang Karanai Constituency, has confirmed that the Judicial Officers Bill and the National Assembly Salary and Pension Bill were delayed due to the recent protest.
“Congratulations to the protesters for patriotically repelling the repressive bills that threatened the future of our nation! At last, the Judiciary Remuneration Bill and the National Assembly Salary and Pension Bill have been halted thanks to our determined efforts. We have succeeded in taking a crucial step forward: we must uphold this defiant spirit! Our fight for justice and equality will continue,” the National Assembly Member said.
Hon. Badjie emphasized that in The Gambia, no civil servant is adequately compensated for their hard work. He highlighted that salaries are ‘discouragingly’ low across all sectors, including nurses, teachers, security personnel, and more.
“Nobody receives fair compensation for their immeasurable efforts and service to our beloved nation. Therefore, the national cake must be shared equitably! To all the youth, here we stand, ready to continue protesting against any injustice that threatens our path to national growth,” he added.
