Honourable Fatou Kinteh, Minister of Gender, Children & Social Welfare has today presented cheques totaling two-million, eight-hundred thousand Dalasis (D2.8) to different women’s groups in the North Bank Region. The funds are part of the government’s Women’s Enterprise Development Fund, which seeks to empower Gambian women.
She hoped that the earmarked funds will serve the recipients [women] in their businesses, by providing them with a reliable and sustainable line of credit at competitive rates.
“We gave you the money because President Adama Barrow wants to empower the women of The Gambia. Before the end of 2021, we wanted to give the funds to Twenty-three thousand women. That shows we fulfilled our promises to you,” Minister Kinteh said.
She added that in the month of June, they disbursed thirty-eight thousand, five-hundred and fifty dalasis (D38,550) to women to help empower their livelihoods.
The presentation was done on Tuesday, November 23, 2022, during President Adama Barrow’s ongoing “Meet The People Tour” in the village of Gunjur, Lower Badibou district of the North Bank Region.
