The media council of the Gambia, on Friday, December 16, 2022, held a day-long workshop to validate its 2023-2027 strategic plan at Tango.
The review and validation workshop seeks to strengthen the MCG in playing its role as an independent, self-regulatory mechanism for journalists.
Speaking at the event on Friday, Famara Darboe, who represented the chairman of the council, said they realized that they need a document that will guide them to do their activities right.
“One thing we have realized over the years, even though we have a Constitution, we also identify some road maps and identify activities. We then realized that we need to provide ourselves a document that will guide us to implement those activities,” He said.
He added that they cannot be operating like that without a guiding tool Which he says they are going to use to put their efforts together to be able to achieve something in the end.
The resident Programme Director of the International Republican Institute (IRI), Jimmy Sankaituah, called on institutions to keep supporting the media council for the council to survive.
During the validation, participants recommended adjustments to the plan.
