Deputy Director General, Management Development Institute (MDI), Fatou A. Barry has called on the Finance and Public Accounts Committee (FPAC) to help her insitution get additional funding to train its staff.

She highlighted the important role MDI plays in the country by training civil servants, for improved performance in  government offices.

Barry said in order to meet up  expectations and the plan to upgrade the institute into a University, as an expansion of their mandate, MDI continues to invest heavily in its human capital.

“Thus the development of the human capital continues to be the top priority of the institute. This is manifested by the high number of Masters programmes. Currently, one of our staff has completed his PhD studies, while another one has just enrolled for a PhD programme,” she added

Deputy Director General highlighted as some their challenges the lack of educational technology resources such as overhead projectors, smart boards, and acute shortage of classrooms as a result of the institute sharing its resources with the University of The Gambia (UTG).

The shortage of classrooms, she continued results in the relatively low enrollment at the institute.

Kebba T Sanneh a member of the committee promised that the FPAC will support MDI to improve its services for the country.

Kebba Lang Fofana, a member who chaired the session, states that MDI is “very important” and the committee will therefore work with its authorities to improve the public institute.
