MCA Bans Dove Beauty Cream Bar Soap, 100g, Batch 81832M 08

The Medicines Control Agency (MCA) has banned the Dove Beauty Cream Bar Soap, 100g, with batch number 81832M 08. According to MCA, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) revealed that the soap contains a harmful chemical impurity, Butylphenyl Methylpropional (BMHCA), also known as Lilial.

MCA confirmed with NAFDAC, Nigeria, about their recall order for the Dove Beauty Cream Bar Soap, 100g, batch number 81832M 08, produced in Germany. This recall was initiated after BfArM, Germany, detected BMHCA in the soap.

“The Medicines Control Agency confirmed with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Nigeria, regarding their ordered recall of Dove Beauty Cream Bar Soap, 100g, with batch number 81832M 08, produced in Germany. The recall alert was communicated to NAFDAC by BfArM, Germany, after detecting Butylphenyl Methylpropional (BMHCA) in the Dove Beauty Cream Bar Soap, 100g in Germany,” MCA said.

The Medicines Control Agency stated that NAFDAC disclosed on their website that BMHCA, also known as Lilial, is banned in cosmetic products in several countries, including across the European Union, due to its serious health risks. These risks include reproductive harm and skin sensitization, which can lead to allergic reactions.

MCA wants to inform the public to stop using the Dove Beauty Cream Bar Soap, 100g, batch number 81832M 08, and to submit any remaining products to the MCA Office. Businesses in possession of this batch are requested to hand over their stock to MCA immediately. Noncompliance with this recall order will violate the Medicines and Related Products Act, 2014, and Medicines and Related Products Regulations, 2020, leading to severe regulatory sanctions.

“MCA hereby wish to inform the general public that the Dove Beauty Cream Bar Soap, 100g, with batch number 81832M 08 is being recalled by MCA and therefore, the public is hereby warned to immediately desist from using this batch of the product and submit any remaining to MCA Office. All businesses in possession of Dove Beauty Cream Bar Soap, 100g, with batch number 81832M 08 are hereby requested to hand over the stock to MCA without delay. Any noncompliance with this recall order would contravene the Medicines and Related Products Act, 2014, and Medicines and Related Products Regulations, 2020, thereby leading to severe regulatory sanctions,” they concluded.
