Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda, accompanied by National Assembly Members from the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) and councilors, wrapped up a three-day official visit to Dakar, Senegal, with a significant meeting with Prime Minister Ousman Sonko.
During their stay, the delegation engaged with Pastef parliamentarians, signed bilateral agreements with Parcelle City, and held discussions with other senior officials of the Pastef government.
The highlight of the visit was the meeting with Prime Minister Sonko, which marked the culmination of what Mayor Bensouda and his team described as a fruitful bilateral engagement between the sister cities. This visit led to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that formalizes the relationship between Parcelle City Council and Kanifing Municipal Council. All 76 councilors of Parcelle City welcomed the KMC delegation and endorsed the MOU, solidifying the partnership between the two municipalities.
Sources close to the entourage informed Kerr Fatou that during the meeting, Prime Minister Sonko expressed his gratitude to Mayor Bensouda and his team for their visit. The Mayor and his team emphasized that this trip was self-funded, taken during the last week of Mayor Bensouda’s annual leave, and did not incur any expenses for the Kanifing Municipal Council. Despite this, they discussed and worked on matters related to the municipality’s advancement.
In Dakar, Mayor Djamil Sané of Parcelle Assainies hosted Mayor Bensouda and his entourage, accompanying them to several meetings with prominent Pastef supporters and officials, including Cheikh Thioro Mbacke, Cheikh Bara Ndiaye, and Dame Mbodji.
It is worth recalling that earlier this year, Mayor Djamil Sané, who also serves as the treasurer of PASTEF, along with his team from Parcelle Assainies, Senegal, visited Kanifing Municipality. Their visit aimed to establish a bilateral relationship between the two municipalities.
Mayor Bensouda and his entourage are scheduled to return to Banjul on Friday evening .
