Mayor Bensouda Condemned Church Attack In Bakau

Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda expressed his disapproval of a church attack in Bakau on Sunday via his Twitter account.

The Mayor wrote on Twitter; 

“It is with great concern and sorrow that I learned of yesterday’s attack on a church in the town of Bakau. I condemn this act of violence. it is contrary to the Gambian spirit of religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence we have ever shared. These values must be preserved at all costs.  Citizens’ Security is paramount and must be enforced to make sure everyone is safe and free to practice their faith as per freedom, democracy, and social cohesion principles.”

The Standard Newspaper reported on Tuesday that the Police Intervention Unit arrested two members of a large group that assaulted Father Peter Jammeh with pepper spray and damaged the statue of the blessed Mary at the Star of the Sea Church in Bakau on Sunday, while mass was in progress.
