In an official press release, the Management of Gambia Ferry Services Company Limited expresses deep regret as it informs the public and valued customers that on the evening of November 15, 2023, around 8:00 p.m., a passenger identified as Modou Sarr, believed to be a Senegalese national residing in Brikama, intentionally jumped off the ferry into the sea while aboard Ferry Kunta Kinteh traveling from Barra to Banjul.
The incident was promptly reported to the police station upon the ferry’s arrival at the Banjul Terminal.
“The incident was reported to the police station upon arrival at the Banjul Terminal, where his neighbors Alieu Camara and Kawsu Jabbi, who were traveling with him, gave their statements to the Police. Modou’s uncle, Sheikh Jobe, reported to the police station on the 16 of November 2023, where he confirmed that Modou has been mentally ill since 2011. Modou is 38 years old and is said to be survived by a wife and four children,” the statement reads.
The press release indicates that the lifeless body of Modou Sarr was discovered by the Gambia Fire and Rescue Service on November 17, 2023, at 6:00pm. The case is currently under police investigation.
