Maimuna Ceesay Darboe, the National People’s Party (NPP) Diaspora Secretary, and nominated member of the National Assembly, has warned that the party could fail if Seedy Njie and Demba Sabally continue to dominate the National People Party’s politics.
“President Barrow should understand one thing, there are two people in our party that Gambians don’t appreciate. One of them is Seedy Njie because of the role he played in 2017. People will never forget about that impasse. President Barrow cannot make people believe in these people. If President Barrow didn’t remove Seedy Njie and Demba Sabally in our political dominance, we are facing our failure. I will say it in public for everyone to hear. That is my belief and that is what is on the ground. President Barrow may believe them, but people don’t believe in them,” she said.
The National People’s Party (NPP) Diaspora Secretary attributed the party’s last election losses to the leadership roles that President Barrow gave to Seedy Njie and Demba Sabally. She claimed that the people were not happy with these appointments, and that this led them to distance themselves from the party.
“The reason for our loss during the past election is not because people don’t want President Barrow. Even if he contests today, he will win, but people believe President Barrow gave leadership to people that they don’t want. Every struggle has an interface, in 2016, President Barrow’s interface was UDP and in 2021 we (people he came with from UDP) were his interface.
“But who are you seeing among those people today? People are complaining that he removed his 2021 interfaces and if he doesn’t bring them back, it will be difficult to achieve anything politically. Since Siaka Jatta left, what political activity does President Barrow carry out at the State House? You don’t see it,” she said.
