The National Assembly member for Bususmbala constituency Saikouba Jarju has accused the United Democratic Party of being selfish and patisan amid failed talks on the Draft constitution.
“It is not a surprise to see the failure of the draft constitution. This is an indication that there is no national interest that politicians are fighting, but selfish interest and partisan interest. The party doing that is UDP, [it] is an indication that anything they don’t lead, they will not take part. If their decision doesn’t stand, [they] will not take part,” Jarju alleged.
Jarju recently told Kerr Fatou that the draft constitution doesn’t belong to politicians, he however maintains his position that if the Draft returns to parliament as it was rejected, he will vote against it as he did in 2020.
Saikouba got to parliament in April 2017 under UDP ticket, but later in November 2019, he with seven other parliamentarians who also got to the house under the party’s ticket, got expelled by the party. UDP cited that the NAMs have shifted their allegiance and loyalty to President Barrow, Barrow Youth Movement and Barrow’s Fans Club as the reason for their expulsion.
The said expelled members are Fatou K Jawara of Tallinding Kunjang, Saikouba Jarju of Busumbala, Billay G Tunkara of Kantora, Saikou Marong of Latrikunda Sabijie, Alhagie Jawara of Lower Baddibu, Abdoulie Ceesay of Old Yundum, Baba Galleh Jallow of Sanneh Menterreng and Omar Darboe of Upper Niumi.
