The Kanifing Municipal Council has announced recovering D2, 400,000 of the D12, 000,000 allegedly spent on an ‘unapproved land loan’ by the suspended CEO from staff association’s coffers.
“An additional D2, 400,000 was successfully recovered from the fraudulent transaction of 12 million loan. The additional amount of D2, 400,000 has been returned to the account of KMC’s staff welfare association. This brings the balance of the missing funds to D900, 000[sic],” Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda, said on Friday morning.
Following the alleged spending of D12, 000,000 by the CEO Mrs Sainabou Sonko on what the Council described as an ‘unapproved land loan’, the Council last month first announced that it had recovered D7, 650, 000 of the sum.
The recent recovery increased the total recovery to D10, 050, 000; leaving a balance of D950, 000 of the funds still unaccounted for.
On the inspection team dispatched to the Council by the Ministry for Lands, Regional Government and Religious Affairs as well as barring the CEO and co from accessing office, Mayor Bensouda assured that the team would be given all necessary assistance and cooperation to carry out their mandate. Nevertheless, he insisted that the suspended CEO stay home until she is called upon, as respect to the council resolution and the terms of her administrative leave.
