Islamic Games: Gina Bass, 3 other Athletes Reach 200m Semifinals

Gina Bass and Wurrie Njadoe have today made it to the semifinals of women’s 200m in the ongoing Islamic Games in Konya, Turkey.

“Gina Bass ran a timing of 23:11 second, while Njadoe’s 23:47 gave her the second spot,” the Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) said today.

Meanwhile, Ebrima Camara and Alieu Joof have also qualified to the semifinals of the men’s 200m at the Islamic Games.

“Both (Ebrima Camara and Alieu Joof ) finished 2nd in their respective heats. Camara scooped 20:63 seconds, while Joof 20:94 seconds,” the committee earlier said.

The four athletes  have participated in the just concluded Commonwealth Games in England  and then joined the Gambian contingent at the 5th Islamic Games that began on 9th August. 

The Gambian contingent that comprises 25 athletes would be participating in Judo, Athletics, Basketball 3×3, Swimming, and Para sports at the 2021 Islamic Games in Konya, Turkey ending 19thAugust 2022.

Meanwhile, the Islamic Solidarity Games is a multinational, multi-sport event that involves the elite athletes of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation who compete in a variety of sports. 

The Solidarity Games were initially created to strengthen Islamic camaraderie and reinforce the values of Islam, primarily to the youth.
