International Religious Freedom Report Highlights Gambia’s Religious Tolerance

 

 


The International Religious Freedom Report has shown that the prevalence of a climate of broad religious tolerance in the Gambia.

“This year’s report on The Gambia details a climate of broad religious tolerance and acceptance and constitutionally-provided freedom of religious choice. The report Includes information about the U.S. Embassy’s engagement with religious communities. The report notes that the country continues to build on its longstanding traditions of tolerance. As in past years, The Gambia has once again proven to be a leader in religious acceptance and freedom of religious choice,” a U.S. Department of State Release announcing the report stated.

The U.S Secretary of State Antony Blinken on 12th May, 2021, released the 2020 International Religious Freedom Report. It is a yearly publication which documents the status of religious freedom in every country in the world. Among others, the report looks into government policies violating religious belief and practices of groups, religious denominations and individuals, and U.S. policies to promote religious freedom around the world. The U.S. Department of State submits the reports in accordance with the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998.
