The Westminster Foundation for Democracy has on Friday organized an advocacy seminar on Political Inclusion for Members of the National Assembly at the NaNa conference center in Kanifing.

The seminar seeks to highlight the significance of political participation and representation for marginalized groups such as women, youths and persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the country.

Westminster has held a similar seminar with political parties to influence their policies on youths, disabilities and women’s participation in politics.

Political inclusion is one of the core objectives of WFD, aimed at promoting accountable democracy and good governance.

The chairperson of the National Youth Council, Dembo Kambi, said the young people who make up 68 % of the Gambian population should be involved in making decisions that affect their lives.

The chairperson of the association of persons with disability, Muhammed krubally, spoke of the significance of involving persons with disability in decision making.

Meanwhile, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, Rohie Bittaye Darboe, said women, children and persons with disabilities are the most discriminated groups in the political arena of the Gambia.

Majority leader for National Assembly and Member for Kombo South Kebba Barrow thanked the WFD for this timely event saying women, children and people with disabilities should be included in politics and decision makings.
