The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has announced a by-election in the Mansakonko Administrative Area to fill the vacancy left by the late Bakary Korita, Councillor for Massembeh Ward.
In a press release, the IEC stated, “Pursuant to section 23 of the Local Government Act, the Independent Electoral Commission(IEC) shall conduct a by-election in the Mansakonko Administrative Area. This follows the demise of Mr. Bakary Korita, Councillor for Massembeh Ward,”
The by-election is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 22nd February 2025.
“The Commission wishes to inform the general public that a Council by- election will be conducted on Saturday 22nd February 2025 to fill the vacancy in Massembeh Ward in the Mansakonko Area Council,” The Statement Said.
Additionally, the IEC outlined the nomination period for the by-election, which will run from Wednesday, February 5 to Saturday, February 8, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily at the IEC Mansakonko Regional Office.
Nomination forms will be available for collection starting January 20, 2025, at the IEC Mansakonko Regional Office.
“Nomination of candidates for the said by-election will be conducted from Wednesday 5th February to Saturday 8th February 2025, between the hours of 8am and 4pm, daily, at the IEC Mansakonko Regional Office. Nomination Forms can be collected from the IEC Mansakonko Regional Office from 20th January 2025; onwards. The campaign period for the said by-election shall start from Monday 10th February to Thursday 20 February 2025” the statement said.
