The Director of Training and Communication at the independent Electoral Commission (IEC) Pa Makan Khan has said that there are no changes in the executive composition of the Gambia Action Party at the commission level.
“I don’t think there is any change. For the official level, I don’t think there is any change as for the composition of the (GAP) executive,” Pa said.
Mr. Khan made the remarks in an interview with this reporter; after the Gambia Action Party announced the appointment of Jalal Camara as their new Secretary General and Party Leader; following their announcement of the dismissal of Musa Yali Batchilly before, the presidential election for endorsing Adama Barrow as NPP candidate without the consent of the GAP national executive committee.
Meanwhile, Gambia Action Party in a press release on 22nd December 2021 announced that its National Executive Committee Members had unanimously agreed to appoint Mr Jalal Camara as their Secretary General and Party Leader, until Congress.
The release stated that the decision to appoint Camara came because of the ‘leadership vacuum’ in the party following the dismissal of its former leader.
Despite Camara’s appointment, Batchilly maintains that he is the GAP Secretary General and Party Leader. He described the appointment of Mr. Camara as ‘nonsense’ and accused the GAP leadership of being “rebels”.
