The Chairman, Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), Alieu Momarr Njie, has hailed The Gambia’ electoral process as the ‘most free, fair and transparent’ globally.

“Our system of election is the most transparent, free and fair, throughout the world. Because for us, we make sure from the beginning of registering the voters, we invite all parties to be present, and they are giving the voters card free of charge on the spot.

“On Election Day, we send in observers, (and) party agents to make sure that what is going on is transparent, free and fair and the spot counting, as well. No matter what, we do our best to make sure that it’s free, fair and transparent,” he said.

The IEC Chairman made the remarks at the confirmation and registration of People’s Alliance Party (PAP) on Monday at the IEC headquarters in Kanifing.

The People’s Alliance Party (PAP) became the 19th registered political party in The Gambia.
