The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has approved the nomination of 251 candidates to run in the 9th April parliamentary election.
Under the commission’s purview, the party sponsored and independent candidates will contest for the 53 constituency seats in the seven administrative areas of the country in less than a month.
Candidates approved in each administrative area
· Banjul Administrative Area – 14 candidates (12 males, 2 females, 10 party sponsored, 4 independent)
· Kanifing Administrative Area – 35 candidates ((30 males, 5 females, 23 party sponsored, 12 independent)
· Brikama Administrative Area – 63 candidates (58 males, 5 females, 32 party sponsored, 31 independent)
· Kerewan Administrative Area – 33 candidates (31 males, 2 females, 26 party sponsored, 7 independent)
· Mansa Konko Administrative Area – 22 candidates (22 males, no females, 16 party sponsored, 6 independent)
· Janjanbureh Administrative Area – 59 candidates (55 males, 4 females, 39 party sponsored, 20 independent)
· Basse Administrative Area – 25 candidates (24 males, 1 females, 20 party sponsored, 5 independent)
· 166 party sponsored candidates
· 85 independent candidates
· 19 female candidates
· 232 male candidates
