Hon. Fatou Cham, National Assembly Member for SannehMentering constituency has apologized to all the United Democratic Party (UDP) elders and her fellow UDP National Assembly Members after a disagreement with Hon. Yahya Sanyang over her vote in favor of the motion to create new Seyfo districts in the West Coast Region.
Yahya Menteng Sanyang and Fatou Cham, two National Assembly Members (NAMs) of the United Democratic Party (UDP), clashed after Sanyang accused Cham of voting against the party in their WhatsApp group. Sanyang, the NAM for Latrikunda, is also said to be unhappy that Cham supported the motion for the creation of new Seyfo districts in the West Coast Region, which was proposed by the Lands Regional Governments and Religious Affairs Minister. The Local government minister said that the motion is in line with the Re-demarcation of Constituencies Order, 2015.
In a low-tone WhatsApp audio message, Hon. Cham expressed her sorrow at the events that transpired and seeks forgiveness from the party leader and executive.
“The entire UDP is saddened by the recent events within our party. We are not a party of chaos, and that is why we feel ashamed when we have issues like this within our ranks.
“I would like to first apologize to my leader, Uncle Ousainu Darbo. I know that you and the other elders of the party do not deserve to be made sad by our actions. I know that I will not hear any more harsh words than you have already heard, but you have shown great patience and understanding.
“No person is perfect, and what happened is the work of Shaytan. I am ashamed and saddened that UDP members have been involved in a problem among ourselves. This has caused me great distress. People do not know me for getting into fights with people within the party. Most of the time, I let things go in the interest of the UDP. I seek forgiveness from all the party executives. Please forgive me”. She said.
Honourable Fatou Cham also made an appeal to the United Democratic Party (UDP) supporters and officials to refrain from discussing important issues in a forum. She stated that she is open to discussing any issue with any member of the UDP and that her door is always open.
“I would like to appeal to everyone to refrain from discussing important issues in public forums. My door is always open to anyone who wants to talk to me. I am not above anyone else, and you are all the reason I am who I am today. If you hear anything about me that you are concerned about, please call me and we can discuss it in private. Let’s work together to solve our problems. I apologize to everyone from Kartong to Koina, and I apologize to my fellow UDP NAMs.,” she said.
