Hon. Bakary K. Badjie, the National Assembly Member for Foni Bintang Karanai, advocated for the introduction of local languages in the National Assembly for adjournment debates.

“Honorable Speaker, it is not a pleasant thing for one to be speaking the English language in this Chamber. Members want to express themselves freely. Members want to speak to their electorates, and members want their electorates to understand what they are communicating to them, but this is restricted because of the language that we speak,” Hon. Badjie said.

Honorable Badjie expressed that speaking a foreign language in the National Assembly is not a matter of pride for them. He emphasized that it would be more fitting for them to communicate in the local language, as it would better resonate with their constituents, enabling their constituents to fully grasp their message.

Honorable Badjie urged his fellow National Assembly members to address the issue.
