The Gambia Police Force (GPF) on Monday welcomed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Seedy Muktarr Touray with grand celebrations following his and the GPF’s recognition at the West Africa Police Awards held in Doha, Qatar.

The GPF was honored with the distinguished title of Best National Police Service in West Africa for 2023/2024, while IGP Touray received the Golden Star Award for Exemplary National Service in West Africa.

The celebratory event commenced with a march-past, as officers and dignitaries paraded from the iconic Banjul Arch to the Police Headquarters to mark the historic achievement.

“The ceremony began with a formal march past, with officers and dignitaries celebrating the historic achievement from the Banjul Arch to the Police headquarters. In his address, IGP Touray expressed his gratitude: “I wasn’t expecting this, and nobody told me about it. It truly came as a big surprise, and I am deeply honored.” He went on to dedicate the awards to the officers of the Gambia Police Force, saying, “These awards are a testament to the services we provide to our homeland and our people,” the police said.

The GPF emphasized that these awards underscore the institution’s transformation into one of West Africa’s leading police services, highlighting its commitment to professionalism, dedication, and public safety.
