President Adama Barrow has revealed that his government has increased the price for a tonne of groundnut from last year’s price of D28 thousand per tonne to D32 thousand per tonne this year. This is an increase of 4000 dalasis per tonne.
The President made these revelations at his meet the people tour meeting held in Chamoi village, in the Jimara constituency.
“Last year we bought a tonne of groundnut for D28 thousand but this year I added D4 thousand to it, making it D32 thousand. This new price will start on the 1st of December 2022. If you know that your groundnuts are ready, go and sell them to the government. We will give you your money on the spot. We will not take any loans because we know farming is not easy. I was born and raised in farming, so I know how hard farming is” he said.
The president told his audience that his government increased the price of groundnut to support local farmers, and urged them to sell their groundnut to the government. He assured farmers that his government is committed to their welfare, saying; “it is guided by politics of development and social welfare”.
Furthermore, he called for unity among Gambians, urging people to desist from politics of division and embrace dialogue and peace.
