The Ghana ECOMIG Contingent in the Gambia donated prayer mats, prayer rosaries, and other items to the community of Essau on Tobaski Day, a major Muslim holiday.
The items donated also include High-Quality Mats, Kettles, Soft Drinks, and water among other things.
The Ghanaian contingent of ECOMIG has made it a custom to present valuable items to the people of Essau as part of their contribution to celebrating the Tobaski feast in the coastal village.
On behalf of the Ghana ECOMIG Contingent commander, Major Francis Ackom, the second in command, expressed gratitude to the members of the Essau community for their hospitality. He also thanked them for their support of the ECOMIG mission.
“We the members of the Ghanian contingent of the ECOMIG are here to celebrate the Edul-Adha with you. We are happy to be members of the Barra community and the hospitality you give us all this time we appreciate it. We are here to present these items to you so that you use them to enjoy the Eid,” he said.
The Imam Rattib of Essau Alhaji Dodou Saidy express his gratitude to the Ghanaian ECOMIG contingent and said they will make good use of the items. The imam went further to pray for the peace of the country and all other countries in the world;
“On behalf of the community, I thank the Ghanaian contingent under the leadership of the commander for the gifts you have brought. These gifts will be very beneficial to the mosque, and we are grateful for your thoughtfulness.
“We pray that the mission that brought you here will be fulfilled and that you will return to your country in peace and tranquility,” he said.
Speaking at the presentation, Major Asola, the Public Relations Officer of the Ghanaian contingent of ECOMIG, conveyed a message from their first commander, wishing the entire community a happy Tobaski.
“The commander has also told me to let you know that all these things have been done on behalf of the contingent commander who is at the ECOMIG first headquarters in the person of lieutenant colonel Kwesi Peprah,” he said.
The Ghana ECOMIG Contingent has a base in Barra. They have supported the community of Barra and its surrounding with a lot of materials since they arrived in the area.
It could be recalled that in 2017, ECOMIG forces were deployed to The Gambia to enforce the will of the Gambians. The arrival of the forces led to the departure of Jammeh to Equatorial Guinea, where he still lives in exile.
