Mr Bajo went into the Wafu elective congress as the only candidate for the position and was duly elected unopposed in Arusha Tanzania where the election took place on the side-lines of  a Caf executive meeting.

Mr Bajo’s new role now means he is the head of the 9- nation Zone A of Wafu which comprises The Gambia, Senegal ,  Cape Verde  , Guinea Bissau,  Guinea Conakry   Liberia,  Sierra Leone  and Mali  and Mauritania. He is the first Gambian to be elected Wafu President .

The West African Football Union was founded in 1975 with all the current members, but in 2011 the Confederation of African Football decided to split it into two zones, citing “the organisational issues that face WAFU.
