Halifa Jawara, the former Regional Mobilizer for the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) in Kanifing Municipality, has resigned from the party to establish a political movement aimed at fighting government corruption.
“I didn’t leave GDC because of any wrongdoing on their part. I joined the party out of my own love for it, but everything has an end. I’m stepping down because I’ve started a new political movement dedicated to standing up for The Gambia and Gambians. I can’t be part of one party while leading another movement. I appreciate GDC’s respect during my time, and I thank Honorable Kandeh for accepting me,” Jawara told Star FM radio.
He explained that the movement’s goal is to address issues of corruption and governance failures in both the government and the opposition.
“Most of the problems stem from the government, as they control the country’s finances and budget. But when the government does something right, we’ll acknowledge it. Our movement will actively monitor and expose corruption to show President Barrow where his government is failing, which Gambians do not support,” Jawara stated.
He also urged President Adama Barrow to address the country’s health system, noting, “Every day, Gambians are dying unnecessarily due to the poor state of healthcare.”
