GAMBIA’S KORA QUEEN TO EMBARK ON U.S DEBUT TOUR

A Gambian kora sensation, Sona Jobarteh, will embark of her first tour in United States after series of tours in Europe and Africa in 2017.

Sona, the first female kora player to have emerged from her family in the griot tradition, has broken the centuries long tradition of male dominance in the trade.

The singer will start performance on April 26 in Louisiane, 28 April in New Orleans, 4 May in Boston, 10 and 11 May in Haiti, and 5 June in Washington, DC.

Since Sona’s coming into the music industry, her songs on YouTube has been Gambia’s most watched content scoring 4 to 5 million views.

She has equally become Gambia’s most toured artist ahead of even the king of kora, Jaliba Kuyateh.

Meanwhile, prior to his U.S tours, Sona will be playing with her band at Turner Sims Southampton in the UK on April 20.
