H.E Dr. Fatou Bensouda was invited by Dean Michael Scharf and the Case Western Reserve University School of Law to deliver the annual Klantsky Endowed Lecture 2022, and to receive the Bruce J Klantsky Award for her extraordinary contributions to global Justice.
The Klantsky Lecture and Award was launched by the Case Western Reserve University School of law, Cleveland, USA in 2001, and this tradition has been maintained for the past 22 years.
Those years witnessed reputable speakers in the field of International Law such as Prince Zeid Ra’ad Al-Hussein, Dr Paul Williams, Samantha Power, Philippe Sands, and Catherine Marchi-Uhel, to mention a few.
In accepting the Award, Dr. Bensouda commended the School of Law for the honour, for maintaining this culture, and for keeping the candle of international law burning.
Speaking on the significance of the award, Deputy High Commissioner, Mr. Suntou Touray, The Gambia High Commission in London, welcomed the award accorded to the High Commissioner, and highlighted:“Diplomacy is advancing and propelling what is great and good about one’s country and Dr Bensouda comes in a category of a high achieving Gambians whose global contributions to international justice is renowned. Her name is internationally attributed to international law and global peace.”
Deputy High Commissioner Touray further indicated that: “The world is a marketplace, thus Gambians should learn to celebrate best citizens in the national and international spheres, and project the best image of their country, thereby attracting industrious investors which can create opportunities for the youth and women in technology, and new industries.”
The staff of The Gambia High Commission in London joined others in celebrating the award to Her Excellency, Dr. Fatou Bensouda, for well-deserved recognition.
The ceremony was held on 31st August 2022 in the U.S, but the award arrived in London on 26thOctober 2022.
