Fears have been allayed among Gambians home and abroad following announcement by the football federation that the Scorpions squad all tested negative ahead of their quarterfinal encounter with Cameroon.

“The Gambia Football Federation is pleased to announce that Team Gambia, this morning, did their pre-match Covid19 tests at the Team’s Best Western Plus Hotel in Douala. All 27 players and staff tested negative and thus everyone is available for the biggest match in Gambian football history on Saturday against the hosts Cameroon in the quarterfinals of the African Cup of Nations at the Stade de Japoma,” GFF said in a statement on Thursday morning.

Prior to the announcement, some Gambians feared that Cameroonian authorities might declare key players of the squad positive in their pre-match Covid19, in a bid to weaken them ahead of their encounter.
