The spokesperson of the Gambia Army Forces (GAF), Captain Malick Sanyang has confirmed the return of General Sulynman Badjie (Saul Badjie) and others who left with former president Yahya Jammeh to Equatorial Guinea.
Sanyang’s confirmation followed the rumour that Badjie and 13 others have on Saturday returned home from exile.
“Right Now a total of fourteen have returned, the significant names would be Sulynman Badjie alias Saul Badjie and also, L.C Wandifa Barrow, L.C Amadou Joof, (and) Major Landing Tamba is also among them. Next for them depends on completing necessary administrative processing to tell us what would happen next. I think what is important here is to understand that they are not received as people that are posing a threat and the like. Their coming has been facilitated through the necessary diplomatic channels. They have been yearning to come and they are happy to be home,” Lt Malick Sanyang told GRTS.
General Sulynman Badjie also referred to as General Badjie was the Commander of the Presidential Guards under former president Jammeh; who with others left with Jammeh to Equatorial Guinea on exile in January in 2017; after losing and contesting the 2016 presidential election, following the intervention of the ECOMIG forces.
