A team from Food Safety and Quality Authority, Wednesday sensitized fishmongers in Tanji on the misuse of pesticides on smoked and dried fish.
The activity is part of the Authority’s on-going engagements with women fish vendors nationwide, which started since the test results on sniper and other pesticides were published on 15th July.
The sensitization in Tanji like many others by FSQA, is intended to discourage those involved in the act to desist from it.
“This is why speaker after speaker including Fatou Sanyang, and Halimatou Baldeh explained the harmful effects of the pesticide to human health by placing raw facts before the gathering, perhaps as a means of striking a cord in them,” the authority said in a statement.
The fisher folk said they are willing to cooperate with the authority in making sure the act is halted.
