The National Assembly Standing Committee on Public and Finance Account on Wednesday rejected the financial statement of the Janjanbureh area council.
Speaking to the officials of the Council, Alhagie S. Darboe, the chairman of the committee, said they have decided to reject the report base on the disclaimer opinion by the Auditors.
“Having taken time to go through the submission and conducted the verifications of the documents that we requested for Janjanburah to submit today. The committee has completed its consideration process and concluded that based on the disclaimer of opinion by the audit report. The basis of the disclaimer of opinion is quite indicated in the management letter, that’s why the statement is rejected by the committee that the accounts are completely incomplete. The committee will prepare its report, which will entail the recommendations. That will be geared towards finding a solution to address the abnormality in the Council,” he said.
Hon. Darboe added that the issue at the Janjanbureh area council emanated from two managements. He said the other one went out, another one came in.
“It can be a learning point for both sides. The one that is out and the one that is in. Particularly, the one that is in, you have the sole responsibility to regulate the situation in your Council. What has happened had happened, but what should be regulated must be regulated? That honor lies in the current management and the committee will look forward to adjustments towards that,” he advised.
Hon. Darboe further stated that his committee takes notes of all issues that are highlighted in the management letter and during their discussions, the advanced responses will also be taken into consideration, and it will guide them to conclude the report.
“We will be laying our report to the Plenary Committee and when adopted it will serve as an action point. FPAC might be in for implementation, it can also be the regional Government. Because there are issues, regional government may come in, especially in the areas of activity report,” he stated.
Hon. Darboe revealed that the Assembly is weak at implementing the reports that are approved by the plenary Committee.”Now that FPAC has started, I think we should continue doing that. When we lay our reports, they are approved and adopted by the plenary. We should still endeavor to develop resolutions and then try to follow those resolutions, then that will give justice to our work,” Hon. Darboe.
