The Finance and Public Accounts Committee (FPAC) of the National Assembly Asked the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) to return to Parliament next week as they await the National Audit Office’s (NAO) final report.
The referral was made on Wednesday 8th February 2023, during the Council’s appearance before the Committee for the presentation of their report 2019 and 2020 financial statements and activity reports.
Appearing before the Committee, Mr. Sheriff Njie, KMC Director of Finance said they appeared for the 2019 Financial Statement and activity report, but the auditors gave them an adverse opinion for them to go and redo it.
“We were asked to go back and redo it again. We couldn’t finalize it, but it was re-presented during the course of the Audit of the 2020 -2021 Financial Statements and Activity Reports. We now want to present 2019, 2020 and 2021 financial statements and activity reports respectively together.
“But as of now, the auditors are still working on the final draft of our reports. And for the GPPA, we received our report on Tuesday around noon. They are printing the copies, and they have yet to finish it. So, we are waiting for the Audit Office to submit their final report for us to copy and submit them to the National Assembly for consideration,” he said.
The Director of Municipalities and Area Councils at the National Audit Office (NAO), Bakary Trawally, confirmed to the committee that the report is done, but they are yet to finalize it. He assured the Committee that they are going to finalize the reports and submit them back to the Council.
The Chairperson of FPAC, Alhagie S. Darboe urged the NAO to finalize the report and submit it to the council
