The National Assembly Standing Committee on Finance and Public Accounts Committee (FPAC) on Tuesday adopted the financial and activity reports of Bundung Maternal and Child Health Hospital.

The reports were unanimously approved by the members of the FPAC, headed by Honorable Alhagie S. Darboe, the National Assembly member for Brikama North.

In his keynote address to the hospital’s management, FPAC Chairperson Alhagie S. Darboe said that the committee has noted a significant improvement in the hospital’s reports. He stated that the committee did not find any adverse findings or disclaimers in the reports.

“We will write the report and forward the report to the plenary, and there the final consideration and adoption will be done by the plenary. Whatever the recommendations and resolutions emanate, the health committee will act on the activity side and the performance side of it. Where we have the issues of finance, the FPAC will act on that, and the rest will be between you as an institution and the ministry of health to come in and be supportive,” he told the hospital’s management.

Clara Saine, a member of the Bundung Hospital’s board, reassured the committee that they are committed to ongoing improvement in all aspects of their work. She also expressed her appreciation for the efforts of the FPAC committee to hold institutions accountable.

“Institutions should be tasked to ensure that we deliver as mandated, if you look at the problems we face as Gambians, it is because nobody is held accountable or responsible. That is the culture in which we operate, and it has made life difficult. So I just want to commend you, and I believe together we can make it,” she said.

She expressed her hope that in their subsequent reports, the committee will be able to see a step-up in performance from the hospital.
