Former second Vice President of Gambia Democratic Congress Women’s Wing has confirmed quitting the party for the National People’s Party.
“I only know that I left GDC [Gambia Democratic Congress] to NPP [National People’s Party], “Adama Kandeh, in a phone conversation confirmed to Kerr Fatou on Monday evening.
Kandeh, who is said to be the sister of Mama Kandeh, the leader of the Gambia Democratic Party, declined to comment when asked about her relationship with Mama Kandeh.
“I cannot tell you nothing about that [relationship with Mama Kandeh] my dear,” she responded.
However, reacting to the news, Ramy Jagne , the National Women Mobilizer of the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) has denied claims that Adama who defected to the National People’s Party is related to Mama Kandeh.
“They also said she shares the same parents with Mama Kandeh, which is not true. They just have the same surname (Kandeh). Mama Kandeh has only one brother which is Ablie Kandeh,” Jagne said.
National Women Mobilizer Ramy also denied that Adama was the second Vice President of GDC Women’s Wing before her departure.
“She said she was the second Vice President in the women’s wing. She was only Vice President in 2018, but in 2020 when we went for Congress, she was no longer the second Vice President. The first president is Ellen Johnson and second Vice president is Yandey Njie,” she concluded.
The Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) is an opposition party in The Gambia headed by Mama Kandeh. The party has clocked 5 this year since formation in 2016. So far, it has lost at least 2 of its supporters to President Barrow’s camp in the person of Dr. Demba Sabally sometime ago and now Adama Kandeh.
