Former army chief and APRC supporter believes former president Jammeh will not return from exile without President Barrow in charge of The Gambia.
He expressed this opinion in an audio recording making the rounds on social media, while urging supporters of the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction [APRC] to support the alliance with President Barrow’s National People’s Party [NPP].
“It was former President Jammeh who facilitated his predecessor Sir Dawda’s return. So anybody who doesn’t support the coalition doesn’t want Jammeh to come back, because if there is no coalition to ensure Barrow’s re-election, Jammeh will not return and if some of these other parties rule this country, I swear Jammeh will not step foot here because that is not their intention.
“This is why I said we should support President Barrow because he is the only chance for Jammeh to return. I understand those who are against the alliance went to Kanilai and asked them not to support it [APRC-NPP alliance] but I want to tell the people of Kanilai that if they want Jammeh to come back, they should support Barrow,” Lang Tombong Tamba told APRC supporters.
The Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction recently formed an alliance with the National People’s Party, but the alliance is yet to attract the approval of some of the party supporters.
Lang Tombong Tamba was born in Sintet in the Foni Jarrol District in The West Coast Region and attended Nusrat High School in Kanifing Municipality.
He enlisted in the army in October 1986 and rose to the rank of a Lieutenant General in 2005 and appointed as army chief and later as deputy army chief in November 2005 as a colonel.
Tamba is the current third vice president of the Gambia Football Federation and a member of Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction [APRC].
