“At the time of the incident only Omie Trawally, a 12-year-old girl, was inside the house. She could not open the door, as the house was full of smoke. The relatives and neighbours came out to put out the fire, before the arrival of the Fire and Rescue services. The Fire and Rescue Services with the police at the scene transported the dead body to the hospital. Among the properties burnt include chairs, clothes, flat TV screen, refrigerator, food,” an eyewitness told Kerr Fatou on Friday.
Buba N.K Touray, a resident of Kunkujang, also an eyewitness narrated to this medium that the cause of the fire is still unknown, because different versions are coming out,
“Others are saying children were inside cooking and another saying it’s electricity leakage that caused the fire,” he said.
Touray lauded the efforts of the neighbours including the youth within the area, who managed to put out the fire before the arrival of Fire & Rescue Services to complete the rest.
“It was a devastating incident. The entire compound was burnt; no items were spared…,” he lamented.
