The six police officers who lost their lives during the violent protest in Sierra Leone have been buried on Tuesday, The Gleaner Newspaper Sierra Leone reported.
The paper said 49-year-old Superintendent Osman Fofanah, 52-year-old Sergeant Tommy Munda, 44-year-old Sergeant Desmond Hanciles, 38-year-old Police Constable 14625 Abu Bakarr Turay, 32-year-old Police Constable 20490 Charles E.K. Smart, and 38-year-old Sergeant Major 11890 Ibrahim Jalloh were laid to rest; after a civic funeral service at the Sierra Leone Police Training School in Hastings, attended by President Julius Maada Bio, Vice President, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, cabinet ministers, and senior Police Officers.
“This is a sad day in the history of our country, as we come to give our final respect to the victims of a violent and brutal attack on our peace and democracy. We have worked very hard as a nation for nearly two decades. We thought violence was completely taken away from the tools that would be used to resolve our differences,” it quoted President Bio as saying at the burial.
The six Sierra Leonean police officers with some protesters died due to clashes between them during the 10th August violent protests in some parts of the country.
