In a significant political shift, the entire village of Batti Jamagen has reportedly switched allegiance from President Barrow’s National People’s Party (NPP) to the opposition Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) in the Central River Region North. This change took place on Saturday, with village elders and youth welcoming GDC leader Mama Kandeh at their village square.

“This village stands firmly behind its choices, and when we move on, we do so with conviction. We’ve been misled for too long, but now we see the truth. We’ve seen someone who helps us even without being president, and we believe he’ll continue to do so if he becomes president. We’re tired of empty promises. We’ve supported the NPP for years but gained nothing. We’re used as farming hoes, they only seek us out during election times. This is why we’ve joined GDC, with the entire village, including all our youth, united in this decision,” stated a youth representative at the ceremony.

Accepting the village’s support, Hon. Mama Kandeh, Secretary General and Party Leader of the Gambia Democratic Congress, highlighted his party’s unique and comprehensive programs.

“I believe our program is unmatched in the country. We aim to establish a farmer’s association, engage with farmers to understand their issues, and document their solutions. This will enable us to address these problems effectively when we come to power. We will also engage with the Carpenter’s Association and other similar groups to understand and solve their issues,” Kandeh explained.

He added that similar engagements would be held with the Tailor’s Association, Fishermen Association, and Welder men Association.

“We will also support local musicians. Despite having many talented artists, Gambians often listen to Senegalese music. We want to change that by nurturing and promoting our local talent,” Kandeh said.

Kandeh made these remarks during his visit to Batti Jamagen, where the entire village declared their new allegiance to the Gambia Democratic Congress.
