Hon. Mama Kandeh, Secretary General and Party Leader of the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC), has cautioned President Adama Barrow that the Judicial and Officers Bill, slated for presentation in the National Assembly, might precipitate the downfall of his administration.

In an audio clip shared with Kerr Fatou, the GDC leader expressed his dismay over the government’s proposal:

“I am deeply troubled by the proposed Judicial and Officers Bill scheduled for debate in the National Assembly. Does the government regard Gambians as mere cattle, devoid of thought? Do they believe Gambians are undeserving of better? Pardon my directness, but I am incensed today. A small group sits comfortably, contributing nothing but draining the country dry, seeking only to enrich themselves. How long can this continue? Enough is enough,” Kandeh declared.

He further accused President Barrow’s administration of continually increasing their own salaries while neglecting the plight of ordinary Gambians, including struggling farmers, market vendors, and youth facing challenges such as drug abuse and illegal migration.

“You are not considering the plight of poor Gambians, farmers, struggling market vendors, or the youths who are losing their lives daily due to drugs or illegal migration. Are you not thinking about these issues? What about the salaries of our security personnel, messengers, drivers, nurses, and doctors? It seems all you care about is yourself. This is not why you were elected to office. I sincerely hope the National Assembly members will have the sense not to pass this bill. Enough is enough. You keep raising taxes and increasing your own salaries, while ordinary Gambians bear the burden. What kind of government is this? It is unacceptable. You are not the only citizens in this country, and you are a small minority compared to the Gambian population,” he said.

Further expressing his disappointment, the Gambia Democratic Congress leader warned President Adama Barrow that it may be the cause of the end of his government;

“As a citizen, I am deeply disappointed by your current mindset. You’ve had every opportunity to secure good jobs, salaries, and a comfortable life. But what about those who haven’t had these chances? Are they not people or citizens? You seem to view everyone as less than human. Enough is enough, Mr. President. Let me be clear: this is unacceptable. If you continue down this path, it could spell the end of your government. We are exhausted and suffering. The salaries you pay yourself are unprecedented in the Gambia. Perhaps you don’t understand the extent of Gambians’ suffering because you don’t care. You have your fat salaries, but how many Gambians go home without dinner or even bread? Do you know?” Kandeh asked.
