Dr. Adama Sallah, the chairman of the Board of Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital, has accused Dr. Abubacarr Jagne, the deputy chief medical director, of spending D779,833.80 on travel within a year.
In an interview with Freedom Radio, Dr. Sallah claimed that many of Dr. Jagne’s activities were conducted without board consultation.
“For his foreign travel, I think the total is D779,833.80, that is the total for his eleven trips, and that is very high and these are travels without authorization of the board. Some were in Ghana, some in Pakistan, and other places. If you compare him with other CMCs, they travel once or twice, but his, is uncountable. That is a lot of money for a deputy CMC for one year,” he told Freedom Radio.
Additionally, Dr. Sallah alleged that Dr. Jagne spent twenty-three thousand dalasis for a three-night in-country trip to Farafenni with some consultants.
“He and some consultants went for an in-country trip to Farafenni, but the amount was big for three nights when they were consulted they said he was paid and the consultants were paid too, but the money was put in his name to share with them. There is no government regulation that allows someone to collect per diem on behalf of anybody. He collected twenty-three thousand for three nights, and the government’s in-country trip is three thousand per night. He said he shared the money with the constants, but these are foreign people and there is no need for the government to pay them,” he alleged.
