Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) has confirmed the existence of a ‘rare’ illness causing mortality among children in the Gambia.
“…there is a rare condition currently under observation in the Paediatric Outpatient. Samples were collected from the affected children and awaiting results from the lab. They present with diarrhoea, vomiting and reduced urination output. It is severe and already causing mortality in children. Our doctors are working hard to establish the cause of the condition,” a statement by the hospital said in a dispatch today.
The EFSTH has urged the public to be vigilant and report to the nearest health facility, if their children have manifested the mentioned symptoms.
