The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has elected the President of Guinea Bissau, Umaro El Mokhtar Sissoco Embalo as its new ECOWAS chairman.
“Congratulations to His Excellency President Umaro El Mokhtar Sissoco Embalo of Guinea Bissau upon assuming the role as Chairman of the Ecowas – Cedeao Authority of Heads of State and Government,” the speaker of the ECOWAS parliament wrote on Sunday.
Embalo would occupy the position for the next one year.
Embalo who was elected on Sunday at the ECOWAS summit in Ghana replaced the Ghanaian President Akufo-Addo who occupied the position for the past two years.
