The United Democratic Party’s (UDP) Deputy National Organizing Secretary alleged that the parliamentary election results showed that Barrow didn’t win the 2021 presidential election.

“This is a big shame; it shows that president Barrow did not win the presidential election. He put up 40 candidates and got only 18. This has never happened. It has never happened since the time of Pierre Njie, Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara and Yahya Jammeh. It happened only during President Adama Barrow’s time. They got two shames and two are left for them on the way coming. The first shame is the low turnout during his inauguration, that tells that we (UDP) won, and he did not win the election. The second shame is that we won in the Parliamentary Election because the foreigners did not vote,” he said in an audio recording shared with Kerr Fatou.

President Barrow’s National People’s Party (NPP) won massively during the presidential election but got 18 of the 40 candidates they put up during the just concluded Parliamentary Election.

Meanwhile, Mr Dibba’s party (UDP) won 15 seats, including 5 of the seats occupied by the 8 parliamentarians it expelled on allegation of shifting allegiance to the President’s camp. However, the main opposition party lost 16 of the seats it won in the 2017 parliamentary election.
