Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, Secretary General and Party Leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP) has challenged President Adama Barrow to declare his assets and those of his family members. Darboe also called on the president to return any properties acquired illegally.
“If anything shows that my wife Aja Maimuna Ndure or my daughter Fenda Darboe have not acquired their properties legally, I will force them to surrender it because I cannot accept my family getting a property that is not legally acquired. So, I, therefore, ask President Barrow himself or his family members to declare all their assets. The landed properties they got and how they acquired it. If they acquire it improperly, they should return these properties,” Darboe said during a speech in Spain.
On corruption, the United Democratic Party Leader said President Barrow does not care about either stopping or fighting corruption.
“We have seen examples of this government protecting people who have been involved in corruption. Additionally, the Anti-corruption bill assented to by the president on 30th January 2024 is not being implemented because the president has failed to appoint the commissioners so that they can begin to work. The delay in the appointment of the officials is consistent with the president’s overall record of corruption. He doesn’t want to address it. We the citizens must demand the selection committee be appointed to select and take the commissioners and swear them in office. We the citizens must also demand once the commissioners are sworn in office, every member of the cabinet that serves from (2017) to date to declare their assets before the commission,” Darboe said.
