Justice Amina Saho Ceesay, the trial judge handling the criminal trial involving the eight executive members of 3 Years Jotna movement Monday granted bail to the accused persons in the sum of D200,000 each.
When the case was called for the prosecution to respond to the defense’s bail application, the state counsel informed the court of the prosecution’s decision to drop the third count which is rioters demolishing structures.
This line of information prompted the trial judge to grant bail to the accused persons accordingly.
She ordered that the accused persons deposit their national documents to the registrar of the high court, and each of the sureties to swear to an affidavit of means.
It could be recalled that the accused persons were first arraigned before the Kanifing Magistrates Court on the 29th January and charged with three counts including unlawful assembly, rioting after proclamation and rioters demolishing structures all contrary to the laws of the Gambia.
But the presiding magistrate transferred the case base on the reason her court lacked the jurisdiction to hear the case.
The case has now been adjourned to 25th March.
