Mbemba Drammeh, Former NPP supporter
The Kanifing Magistrates’ Court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Mbemba Drammeh after he failed to appear in court to answer charges of seditious intent.
Magistrate Mben Faal granted the police request for the warrant after it was revealed that Drammeh, who had been previously granted bail, had fled the country and failed to honor his scheduled court appearance.
Drammeh came under scrutiny following an interview with Kerr Fatou online television, during which he alleged that the 2021 presidential election was rigged and that he, along with other senior members of the National People’s Party (NPP), had played a role in the alleged manipulation. He stated that he would disclose further details “at the right time.”
Shortly after the interview, Drammeh was arrested, detained, and later released on bail. However, reports indicate that he subsequently fled to France, leading authorities to revoke his bail. As a result, his two sureties were arraigned in court and each paid D100,000 to secure their release.
During court proceedings today, Commissioner A. Sanneh informed the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court that Drammeh was scheduled to appear on January 16, 2025, as per directives from the Kairaba Police, but had failed to do so. The court was further informed that the accused had left the country.
Magistrate Faal approved the police application and ordered Drammeh’s immediate arrest so he can be brought before the court to face the charges.
