The chairman, Kuntaur Area Council (KAC), Saihou Jawara told the National Assembly that Social Security and Housing Finance Corporation (SSHFC) owes his council D7 million.
He said SSHFC has many plots in the Central River Region (CRR) north and it is not paying rates to the council, which is now affecting them as council.
Jawara then told the committee on regional government, lands, ombudsmen and IEC to call on the corporation to start paying rates to the Councils.
“We want the select committee to look at the issue and help us to hand over the lands to us as a council or they help us so that they can start paying rates and to pay us our 7million to the Councils,” he added.
He said that they are losing a lot of revenue because the D7 million is not a small amount of money saying, “if they start paying taxes to the council, the council will generate a lot of funds to give back to the communities”.
